Rolls vs Sheet – Which one should you use?
When getting labels or stickers printed, you can basically have them printed onto rolls or onto sheets, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Depending on your quantity and material used, it might automatically be on either a roll or sheet. Let’s take a closer look at each option and see how it works.
In addition to protecting the written information from someone altering or tampering with it, it also helps defend it against chemicals, moisture, water and any other kind external damage.
Having labels printed on a sheet
Sheet as the name suggests is simply printing labels on a sheet of paper. If you’re a small business that’s just starting out and need labels in smaller quantities for trial purposes, or because you basically have fewer products to start with, then printing them on a sheet would be a logical choice.
It’s worth mentioning that sticking your label on a product by hand can be relatively easier (because the stickers are on a flat surface) and is another big reason to use sheets instead of rolls.
Having labels printed on a roll
Rolls, on the other hand, is an ideal choice for a growing business. When you have more products to label, you may eventually get exhausted just thinking about doing it by hand. In addition, you may realise that you want a premium, polished look, which is difficult to create when hand labelling the products.
Stickers on a Roll or Stickers on a Sheet?
Whichever you decide to go ahead with will generally depend on the size of your order. There is really no good or bad choice. At EXELprint we mostly print stickers on a roll, for the simple reason that as most businesses grow, they utilise machinery that automates the process of applying labels on the product. And in most situations, these machines require rolls to print the labels on.
What we do print on sheets are our test tags. Other than that, most of our labels go on a roll. From a storing perspective, it’s easy to stock rolls since they take up less space which is beneficial for the customers and also for us. Cost wise both rolls and sheets are pretty much the same. One downside to sheets is that we only do limited sizes, whereas for rolls there is no such limitation.
Conclusion
As we said above, there is no type of production that’s better or worse. It all comes down to choosing a type of production that’s more cost-effective and easier for your business. That said we do think rolls have an edge over sheets for the following reasons:
- With labels on a roll, there is no limitation on size.
- Rolls are ideal when you want the labels to be machine-applied. Additionally, you can also apply them manually without too much hassle
- Rolls are easy to store and carry, and you don’t have to worry about them getting damaged.
- And last, Rolls will come in handy when your business expands quickly, and you need a solution that can fasten your labelling process.
